Welcome Address

Prof. Tara Desai
Director and Chair, FPPT-12

Dear Delegates,

On behalf of the organisers, it is my great pleasure and privilege to extend a warm welcome to the delegates of the 12th International Conference on the Frontiers of Plasma Physics and Technology (FPPT-12).

This conference is particularly special as we celebrate the Silver Jubilee of the FPPT series. Since its inception in Bangalore, India, in 2002, FPPT has travelled across Asia, Africa, Europe, and Latin America, bringing together more than a thousand scientists, researchers, technologists, and young scholars. What began as a modest initiative has grown into an international forum for scientific exchange, collaboration, and friendship.

Over these 25 years, FPPT has connected not only scientific communities but also cultures and generations. Many young researchers who participated in earlier conferences have since become established scientists and leaders in their fields. This continuity is among the most rewarding achievements of the FPPT journey.

Our Silver Jubilee is also a celebration of plasma itself. From stars and interstellar space to laboratories, industry, and modern technology, plasma is fundamental to our understanding of the universe and increasingly important to society. Today, plasma science and technology contribute to advances in materials, agriculture, astrophysics, biotechnology, environmental protection, medicine, nuclear energy, semiconductor processing, space science, and many emerging fields.

The mission of FPPT remains as relevant today as at its beginning: to bring the conference to different developing countries and provide local scientists, particularly young researchers, opportunities to interact with international experts and develop collaborations. We believe that science progresses when knowledge is shared openly, and researchers have opportunities to meet, discuss, question, and work together.

Our guiding theme, Promoting Sustainable Research and Technology through International Cooperation, remains at the heart of the FPPT vision. At a time when many scientific and technological challenges transcend national boundaries, international cooperation is more important than ever. We hope FPPT-12 will strengthen these connections and create new opportunities for the next generation of researchers.

The FPPT-12 programme reflects the breadth and dynamism of modern plasma science, covering fundamental physics, applications, emerging technologies, and interdisciplinary developments. We look forward to stimulating scientific discussions as well as the informal interactions that often lead to new ideas, collaborations, and lasting friendships.

As we celebrate 25 years, we also look ahead. This Silver Jubilee is not an endpoint, but a foundation for the future. We hope FPPT will continue to uphold its core values of scientific openness, international cooperation, personal interaction, and encouragement of young researchers.

I sincerely thank all former conference directors, organising committees, speakers, delegates, institutions, supporters, and sponsors who have contributed to this remarkable journey.

FPPT-12 is both a celebration of our 25-year journey and our promise for the future.

We warmly welcome all distinguished delegates, speakers, young researchers, colleagues, and accompanying persons, and hope that your participation will be scientifically enriching, personally rewarding, and memorable.

We wish you all a stimulating, productive, and memorable conference.

With warmest regards,
Tara Desai,
Director and Chair, FPPT-12
